RENO, NEVADA - For the third year in a row, the amazing racing mule from Healdsburg, California is a year end champion. This year at the annual convention in Reno, Nevada, Black Ruby, the seven year old racing mule owned by Sonny and Mary McPherson was named the Open Sprint Champion by the American Mule Racing Association. Not bad for a mule that four years ago fought debilitating injuries from a trailering accident. At the time, no one was sure if she would ever run again. She staged an amazing comeback in her four year old year and has been unstoppable ever since. Her lifetime earnings now are close to $50,000!

Competition for mule racing points begins in May with the race meet in Winnemucca, Nevada and continues throughout the summer in California on races run at all the summer racing fairs. For more information on mule racing contact Kate Snider at (916) 263-1529.
