AMRA VICE-PRESIDENT NAMED

"LIVESTOCK MAN OF THE YEAR"

Sacramento, California – David E. Wood, Vice President of the American Mule Racing Association, has been named as California Livestock Man of the Year. He will be honored on November 1 during Cattlemen’s Day at the 57th Grand National Rodeo, Horse and Stock Show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco.

From 1970 to the present Mr. Wood has worked as Feedlot Manager and Chief Operating Officer of Harris Farms, Inc., in Selma, California. In 1989 he was promoted to Chairman, Beef Division. Harris Ranch Beef Company is California’s largest fed cattle processor producing nearly 200 million pounds of beef products each year. Mr. Wood also is the owner of Dave Wood Ranches and Wood Livestock - cattle operations including 4,000 cows and calves that are part of the Partnership for Quality program, which was developed by Mr. Wood in response to consumers’ demand for consistent high-quality beef.

In addition to his cattle business, Mr. Wood is the owner of more than 10 mules racing on the California Summer Fair Circuit. In his position as Vice President of the AMRA, Mr. Wood works tirelessly for the advancement of mules and pari-mutuel mule racing in California. In 1998 he was honored with the prestigious Special Recognition Award for his guidance and direction of the American Mule Racing Association from its inception.
