HELD IN RENO, NEVADA
AMRA CONSIDERS CLAIMING RACES, WINNEMUCCA SPEED INDEX, YEAR-END AWARDS, FERNDALE DERBY, AND CALIFORNIA-BRED AWARDS
Reno, Nevada- The American Mule Racing Association annual convention and awards banquet were held February 24, 2001 at Harrah’s Hotel/Casino in Reno, Nevada.
During the Morning session many topics of interest to the members were discussed. Among these were claiming races, year-end award changes, California and Nevada racing, racing in other states, and stake races.
The new Board of Directors was elected during the afternoon session. All three vacancies were filled by incumbents. The new Board members are DON JACKLIN, President; DAVE WOOD, Vice President; KATE SNIDER, Secretary-Treasurer; ROGER DOWNEY, GARY MCGRAW, and MARY MCPHERSON, Board members.
More than 50 members and guests crowded the meeting hall for the annual meeting. Attendees came from Idaho, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Nevada and California. The awards banquet was attended by more than seventy mule-racing enthusiasts. For the fifth year in a row, perennial champion BLACK RUBY led the list of winners earning the title, World Champion Sprint Mule. Black Ruby’s owners, SONNY and MARY MCPHERSON were named 2000 Leading Owners.
Other Awards were:
